Why the Central Ninth district
Bridging west and east
Although close to downtown, Central Ninth is one of the City’s most underserved neighborhoods. Being located within the Central Ninth Neighborhood creates easy access and limits the barriers faced by young people who need the Bicycle Collective’s programming the most.
This area has no bicycle shops or service repair centers.
Nurturing active commuting and community
Bicycle Collective will be a beacon of community and creativity embedded within the Central Ninth Neighborhood. We want to be the catalyst and the driver of building a community we are proud to be a part of that is fostering a love for biking, active transportation, and cultural diversity.
An ideal location with easy access
One block from a TRAX stop that services all three Trax lines, making it extremely convenient for any of our community partners and clients to get to our location. We are in close proximity to the VOA Homeless Youth Resource Center, Catholic Community Services, First Step House, International Rescue Committee (IRC), and numerous other non-profit providers.
Detailed floor plans
Level one highlights: Nearly 3000 square feet of retail space to display upcycled bicycles for test rides and purchase with roll up overhead doors to pull bike racks onto the sidewalk. Expanded professional mechanic work area for building bicycles and service repair options for the community. Double the number of bike workstations with tools for community members to work on their own bikes.
Level two highlights: Flexible classroom, administrative and support spaces for statewide operations. Staircase featuring a bike culvert to easily move bikes for education purpose between levels.
In building bicycle storage for the thousands of bikes donated annually to be repaired for a second life and home.
Roof: Creative Solar Energies designed a solar rooftop system and Rocky Mountain Power awarded the Bicycle Collective a Blue Sky grant to fund 80% of the $125,000 installation of a renewable energy project once the construction is completed.
