Updates to Shopping Protocols at the Salt Lake Bicycle Collective
As of Aug. 4th, 2021, SLCBC will be open for shopping and DIY hours Wed-Saturday 12-6pm (allowing 5 customers in at a time). Masks are required at all times when shopping with us.
When you arrive: please ring the bell and wait 6ft. (one bicycle length) from the door. A staff member will answer to assist you!
First Come First Serve for Bicycles, Parts, and Repair Stands
You no longer need an appointment to shop with us! We can allow up to 5 customers in at a time, so you may be required to briefly wait while another customer finishes shopping.
If you're shopping for parts, bring your bike, a photo of the part you need to replace, or a detailed list of the parts you need and our staff will help you find what will work for your bike.
We currently have 3 repair stands available for the public to work on their own bicycles. Bench time is $10/hr., and we have staff ready to answer your questions. Last call for new projects is 5pm.
You are required to properly wear a mask at all times while in the shop, no exceptions.

04 Aug. 2021: Due to nationwide supply-chain shortages of vital bicycle parts like tubes, tires, chains, cables, etc., many essential bike parts are out of stock. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

If you have questions about a mechanical issue with a bike you've recently purchased from us, please email us at or call us at (801) 328-2453 and leave a voicemail. We fully refurbish every bike we sell, but sometimes we make a mistake. We'll be happy to help take care of any mechanical issues you have with your new bike within the first 30 days for no charge.
If your bike is your only means of transportation and you aren't able to afford repairs at a retail bike shop, please email us at or call us at (801) 328-2453 and leave a voicemail. We have low- or no-cost options available for folks in need.

NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY, BUT MORE THAN 5 BIKES AT ONE TIME MUST BE APPROVED AHEAD OF TIME. PLEASE CALL OUR SHOP AT 801-328-2453 BEFORE YOU COME TO DONATE.
We have limited storage space, and calling to verify a large donation of bicycles helps us prepare space.
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE DONATIONS WHEN WE AREN’T OPEN.
What may seem like a convenient move for you creates a lot more work for us.
PLEASE DO YOUR BEST TO CLEAN YOUR DONATIONS OF VISIBLE DEBRIS BEFORE DONATING. WHY?
Donating extremely dirty bikes (covered in mud, dirt, grass or hay) hinders our processing abilities and puts the “dirty work” on us. Tip: you can clean your donation quickly with a garden hose or a household rag and some glass cleaner.
WE DO NOT DO PICK-UPS.
WE ACCEPT:
-All types of bikes (road, hybrid, mountain, bmx, tandem, etc)
-All sizes of bikes (adult, child)
-Bike parts of any kind
-Tools of any kind
-Accessories in good condition (helmets, bike pumps, lights, locks, racks, baskets)
-Gently used cycling clothing and shoes
-Old (clean) t-shirts and dish towels that we can turn into rags for our shop
WE DO NOT ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
-Scooters
-Tag-a-Long bikes
-Anything motorized
-Exercise equipment or bike trainers
-Jogging strollers
-Car racks that are missing pieces (if we can’t sell it as a fully functioning rack, please do not donate it). We may refuse a car rack donation if we do not have the space to house it.
-Trailers that are missing hitches (if we can’t sell it as a fully functioning trailer, please do not donate it). We may refuse a trailer rack donation if we do not have the space to house it.
As a general guideline, we accept bicycles and bicycle related items. These items best serve our mission and the work we do.
Buy A Bike - Ogden Shop
Tuesday, May 5, 2020, is #GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.
We at the Bicycle Collective in Utah are excited to get folks riding bikes as part of this day of giving. Cycling enables us to exercise while maintaining social distance, explore new areas, and enjoy the outdoors. It is good for our physical and mental health: boosting immune systems, heightening moods, and exposing us to sunshine.
If there was ever a time for bikes, that time is now. The bike is a happiness machine bringing joy with each pedal. We can experience the joy of riding together even as we shelter at home apart.
How we're giving back this Tuesday
May is National Bike Month, and on Giving Tuesday Now, we are kicking off the month by giving back to children in our State. Our staff and volunteers are building bicycles for Utah kids whose families may not be able to purchase one due to financial and economic hardship in the wake of COVID-19. We invite you to sign up for a free bike from one of our locations or share this email with someone you know who needs a bike for their child or children. Once the bike is built, we will call the parent or guardian to set up a convenient time for pick up at our shop at the location you selected. (Note as of 7 May 2020. We are going to temporarily disconnect the link for the sign up as we 430 requests we need to fill.)

Accepting Donations of Bicycles and Parts

After a challenging month, we have made significant steps to re-starting our operations to fulfill our mission of getting people on bikes. On March 30, we started selling bikes and parts on line and by appointment. The following week we began offering repair services at our locations. We are now ready to once again accept donations of bikes, parts and accessories (i.e, trainers, racks, etc). We would love to give your old bike a second life or strip it for parts. We recycle what is not usable or worth repairing.
Here is the protocol for bringing in donations.

We greatly appreciate you washing the bike down with soap and water. Please do the same for parts.
When you arrive at the shop, please wear a face mask and gloves. We will do the same. If you would like a receipt for the donation, please provide either an email address or phone number for us to send the receipt.
We are taking things slowly with much caution and compassion. Please be patient and flexible with us as it may take us a day or two to respond to your email or phone call as we are handling many requests.
We are humbled by and extremely grateful for the health care professionals, farmers, grocery store workers, delivery people, public servants and many others who are working their hardest right now.

During these times where our lives are uprooted, we seek normalcy. This pandemic is hitting our most vulnerable the hardest. The Collective is eager to serve our customers and clients in this time of uncertainty and change. I’d like to introduce our new online- and by-appointment sales options! These measures will help us protect public health while allowing shop operations to continue. We want to be available to safely serve the community, especially with how crucial bikes are to maintaining all of our health and sanity. And as an effective form of transportation and mobility that naturally promotes social distancing.
BIKE SALES
Do you need a bike? Know someone who does? Starting today we are available to sell bikes by appointment. Here’s how easy it is:
- Browse our selection of refurbished on our various Instagram accounts and on our website. Make sure to note the make and model of the bike you’re interested in and we’ll set up a time that’s convenient for both of us so you can test it out.
- Set up an appointment for a test ride Mon-Sat from 12-7p by contacting us at our four locations by phone, email or social media:

- When you get to the shop, please ring the doorbell. We’ll set aside 20 minutes to help fit the bike to you and answer any questions. Please be prompt so we can help folks in a timely manner. If there’s a line, please stand 6 feet away from the person in front of you.
- Our staff will wear gloves when we handle the bikes, and we’ll be practicing thorough hand washing hygiene and washing before and after we help each customer. We recommend you do the same. We will sanitize the contact surfaces of each bike before and after your test ride.
- When you decide to purchase a bike from us, we accept credit cards and Apple/Google Pay.. Contactless payments are much less susceptible to viral transmission! Once you’re paid up, you’re good to go and ride.
GIFT CARDS
If you want to help the Bicycle Collective during this challenging time and through this transition, but you don’t need to buy a bike, consider purchasing a gift card to use when we’re able to reopen. You’ll get an additional 10% off your purchase when you use that gift card as a thanks for supporting us through this tough time. Additionally, please consider donating disinfectants such as Lysol Wipes.
DIY/OPEN SHOP
We value our DIY shop hours immensely, but it is currently unwise to host them. Soon we will be announcing a Service & Repairs department so we can help keep your bike rolling smoothly. We recognize that doesn’t do much to help folks who relied on our Work Trade programs to keep rolling, so we’re making Service Vouchers available to help cover the costs of repairs for those who can’t afford it, click the link here to pay it forward.
DONATIONS of BIKES & PARTS
At this time, we are not accepting donations. While we know may have bikes they are no longer using or have outgrown and want to give it a second life, we do not yet have all the cleaning supplies needed to accept them. Please hold onto your items for a few more weeks and stay tuned for an update.
PROGRAMMING
We know many of you are anxious to get back in the shop as a volunteer and/or a program participant. We are constantly monitoring the situation, evaluating options, and developing new opportunities. Again, please stay tuned.
